My name is Melanie Day and I am currently enrolled in the Applied Technology in Education Master’s Program at Wilmington University. I have been teaching for 14 years and I am currently employed by the Caesar Rodney School District at McIlvaine Early Childhood Center. I am not presently in the classroom but have accepted a two year position as our building Achievement Liaison Teacher. This opportunity has afforded me the chance to experience some administrative responsibilities while still being able to work with children. Although I thoroughly enjoy this new challenge, I find that I miss having a classroom and a group of students to enjoy each day.
I have always said that if the day comes when I am not longer an effective classroom teacher, I would still want to have a way to work with children in an academic setting. This degree will allow me to combine two things I greatly enjoy, technology and children, and hopefully give me more skills to bring to the classroom. Beyond this I will probably get my second Master’s Degree in School Leadership, perhaps immediately after this one, in order to be certified as an administrator in Delaware. I am not sure if that is the path I will choose or not. I definitely need more time in the classroom as I still feel I have much to offer there.
